Hiking in Colorado

Besides skiing, Colorado is Hiker's Heaven! JeffCo's slogan is "Gateway to the Rocky Mountains." Wilderness areas are a short drive away. Lost Creek Wilderness is our favorite. But right here in JeffCo, for day hikes, there are 28 parks nearby. We enjoy the fresh air, the exercise, and the views!

We've worn out Merrells and Columbia boots.. these Salomon are our favorite.

Jefferson County Hiking Trails

28 parks, 54,000 acres, 258 miles of hiking trails.
We are keeping a log of each trail completed.

Deer Creek Canyon and South Valley Parks
10 mins from home, these are our "go to" parks for a quick hike. The trail starts at 6,000 feet and peaks at 7,200'. The formations are called hogbacks.

Achievement Unlocked!
We set a goal to hike 100 miles at South Valley Park in the Spring/Summer of 2019. We started hiking and by mile 90 we were jogging the length of the trail. We completed 110 miles this Summer.

Meyer Ranch Park
A side-trail takes you to Legault Mountain; a secluded high-spot with great views.

Hildebrand Ranch Park
An easy loop through grass prairies. A quiet spot for a picnic on a sunny day. This trail is popular with mountain bikers.

Reynolds Park
This park offers a diversity of trails. On one side of Foxton Rd, Eagle's View trail; rocky and steep, with views of the mountains and Pike's Peak. On the other side, a pleasant hike on the Hummingbird Trail. Which one to hike? Depends on the day! We've hiked these trails a few times; good memories of each one.

Mount Falcon Park
In 1914 a white marble cornerstone for the future "Presidential Summer Home" was laid at the top of Mt Falcon, but funding was never secured. Mt Falcon is a vigorous hike with 12 miles of trails and 2,000 feet elevation gain, peaking at 7,700 feet. The views are very rewarding with Mt Evans at 14,271' visible on one side and Denver at 5,280' on the other. At the summit, the ruins of the old Walker mansion.

Cathedral Spires Park
This park is for rock climbers; hiking trails are short. A nice day hike with cool mountain streams. This is one of the sources of the Platte River

Other Colorado Hikes

Rocky Mountain National Park
A high altitude hike on the Ute Trail at 12,000 feet and a lower altitude hike at 8,000 feet on the Deer Mountain Trail.

Kenosha Pass
Fall colors hike in the Tarryall Mountains, overseeing the town of Fairplay (aka "South Park").
